Stem cell engraftment

A process in which transplanted stem cells travel through the blood to the bone marrow, where they begin to make new white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets. It usually happens within 2 to 4 weeks after a stem cell transplant. The transplanted stem cells may come from a donor or from the patient. (NCI Dictionary)
