    Sukhasutta

    Pleasure

“Tisso imā, bhikkhave, vedanā. Katamā tisso?

“Bhikkhus, there are these three feelings. What three?

Sukhā vedanā, dukkhā vedanā, adukkhamasukhā vedanā—imā kho, bhikkhave, tisso vedanāti.

Pleasant, painful, and neutral feeling. These are the three feelings.

Sukhaṁ vā yadi vā dukkhaṁ, adukkhamasukhaṁ saha; Ajjhattañca bahiddhā ca, yaṁ kiñci atthi veditaṁ.

Whatever is felt internally and externally—whether pleasure or pain as well as what’s neutral—

Etaṁ dukkhanti ñatvāna, mosadhammaṁ palokinaṁ; Phussa phussa vayaṁ passaṁ, evaṁ tattha virajjatī”ti.

having known this as suffering, deceptive, falling apart, one sees them vanish as they’re experienced again and again: that’s how to be free of desire for them.”

    Dutiyaṁ.
