Synaptophysin Staining Method
This is an immunohistochemical technique utilizing antibody to synaptophysin, an integral membrane glycoprotein present in presynaptic vesicles in neurons. The antibody labels neuroendocrine cells and neurons of the brain, spinal cord and retina. Used to detect neuroendocrine neoplasms including neuroblastomas, ganglioneuroblastomas, ganglioneuromas, pheochromocytomas, chromaffin, and non-chromaffin paragangliomas. (NCI Thesaurus)
