Testicular Torsion
Definition 1
An emergency condition caused by the twisting of the spermatic cord which contains the vessels that provide the blood supply to the testis and surrounding structures. It manifests with acute testicular pain. If immediate medical assistance is not provided, it will lead to necrosis and loss of the testicular tissue. (NCI Thesaurus)
Definition 2
Torsion of the spermatic cord caused usually by incomplete attachment of the epididymis to the testis or by inclusion of the cord within the tunica vaginalis. Faulty development of various anatomical components of the testes is also a cause. It occurs most frequently in childhood and adolescence.
