A thiadiazine derivative with hypoglycemic activity. Like sulfonylureas, tifenazoxide binds to ATP-sensitive inwardly-rectifier potassium Kir6.2/SUR1 (IKATP) channels on the membrane of pancreatic beta cells and stimulates insulin release to reduce blood glucose levels. (NCI Thesaurus)
