    Treponema pallidum

    Definition 1

    A species of anaerobic, Gram indeterminate, spiral shaped bacteria assigned to the phylum Spirochaetes. This species is motile, NADH oxidase positive, ferments glucose and is an obligate parasite. T. pallidum is the causative agent of syphilis and at least 3 other subspecies are also human pathogens.
