Tumor Necrosis Factor Receptor Superfamily Member 11B

Widely expressed by estrogen- and glucocorticoid-regulated human TNFRSF11B Gene (TNFR Family), 401-aa 46-kDa (precursor) N-glycosylated homodimeric secreted Tumor Necrosis Factor Receptor Superfamily Member 11B contains a blocked N-terminus, 4 TNFR-Cys repeats, 2 death domains, and sialic acid residues. TNFRSF11B acts as a regulator of bone homeostasis and osteoclast development. A decoy receptor for RANKL (TNFSF11/OPGL), TNFRSF11B inhibits activation of osteoclasts (osteoclastogenesis) and promotes osteoclast apoptosis. TNFRSF11B may also act as decoy receptor for TRAIL, protecting against apoptosis and inhibition of osteoclastogenesis. (NCI Thesaurus)
