    උට්ඨානඵලසුත්ත

    The Fruits of Initiative

    “චත්තාරෝමේ, භික්ඛවේ, පුග්ගලා සන්තෝ සංවිජ්ජමානා ලෝකස්මිං. කතමේ චත්තාරෝ?

    “These four people are found in the world. What four?

      උට්ඨානඵලූපජීවී න කම්මඵලූපජීවී,

      One who lives off the fruit of initiative, but not deeds;

    කම්මඵලූපජීවී න උට්ඨානඵලූපජීවී,

    one who lives off the fruit of deeds, but not initiative;

    උට්ඨානඵලූපජීවී චේව කම්මඵලූපජීවී ච,

    one who lives off the fruit of both deeds and initiative;

    නේව උට්ඨානඵලූපජීවී න කම්මඵලූපජීවී—

    one who lives off the fruit of neither initiative nor deeds.

    ඉමේ ඛෝ, භික්ඛවේ, චත්තාරෝ පුග්ගලා සන්තෝ සංවිජ්ජමානා ලෝකස්මින්”ති.

    These are the four people found in the world.”
