“दसहि, भिक्खवे, वड्ढीहि वड्ढमानो अरियसावको अरियाय वड्ढिया वड्ढति, सारादायी च होति वरादायी कायस्स। कतमेहि दसहि? खेत्तवत्थूहि वड्ढति, धनधञ्ञेन वड्ढति, पुत्तदारेहि वड्ढति, दासकम्मकरपोरिसेहि वड्ढति, चतुप्पदेहि वड्ढति, सद्धाय वड्ढति, सीलेन वड्ढति, सुतेन वड्ढति, चागेन वड्ढति, पञ्ञाय वड्ढति—इमेहि खो, भिक्खवे, दसहि वड्ढीहि वड्ढमानो अरियसावको अरियाय वड्ढिया वड्ढति, सारादायी च होति वरादायी कायस्साति।
“Dasahi, bhikkhave, vaḍḍhīhi vaḍḍhamāno ariyasāvako ariyāya vaḍḍhiyā vaḍḍhati, sārādāyī ca hoti varādāyī kāyassa. Katamehi dasahi? Khettavatthūhi vaḍḍhati, dhanadhaññena vaḍḍhati, puttadārehi vaḍḍhati, dāsakammakaraporisehi vaḍḍhati, catuppadehi vaḍḍhati, saddhāya vaḍḍhati, sīlena vaḍḍhati, sutena vaḍḍhati, cāgena vaḍḍhati, paññāya vaḍḍhati—imehi kho, bhikkhave, dasahi vaḍḍhīhi vaḍḍhamāno ariyasāvako ariyāya vaḍḍhiyā vaḍḍhati, sārādāyī ca hoti varādāyī kāyassāti.
“Bhikkhus, a noble disciple who grows in ten ways grows nobly, taking on what is essential and excellent in this life. What ten? He grows in fields and lands, money and grain, wives and children, in bondservants, workers, and staff, and in livestock. And he grows in faith, ethics, learning, generosity, and wisdom. A noble disciple who grows in ten ways grows nobly, taking on what is essential and excellent in this life.
धनेन धञ्ञेन च योध वड्ढति, पुत्तेहि दारेहि चतुप्पदेहि च; स भोगवा होति यसस्सि पूजितो, ञातीहि मित्तेहि अथोपि राजुभि।
Dhanena dhaññena ca yodha vaḍḍhati, Puttehi dārehi catuppadehi ca; Sa bhogavā hoti yasassi pūjito, Ñātīhi mittehi athopi rājubhi.
Someone who grows in money and grain, in wives, children, and livestock, is wealthy, famous, and respected by relatives and friends, and even by royals.
सद्धाय सीलेन च योध वड्ढति, पञ्ञाय चागेन सुतेन चूभयं; सो तादिसो सप्पुरिसो विचक्खणो, दिट्ठेव धम्मे उभयेन वड्ढती”ति।
Saddhāya sīlena ca yodha vaḍḍhati, Paññāya cāgena sutena cūbhayaṁ; So tādiso sappuriso vicakkhaṇo, Diṭṭheva dhamme ubhayena vaḍḍhatī”ti.
When someone grows in faith and ethics, wisdom, and both generosity and learning—a good man such as he sees clearly, and in the present life he grows in both ways.”
