Free of Greed
“पञ्चहि, भिक्खवे, धम्मेहि समन्नागतो थेरो भिक्खु सब्रह्मचारीनं अप्पियो च होति अमनापो च अगरु च अभावनीयो च। कतमेहि पञ्चहि? अवीतरागो होति, अवीतदोसो होति, अवीतमोहो होति, मक्खी च, पळासी च—इमेहि खो, भिक्खवे, पञ्चहि धम्मेहि समन्नागतो थेरो भिक्खु सब्रह्मचारीनं अप्पियो च होति अमनापो च अगरु च अभावनीयो च।
“Pañcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato thero bhikkhu sabrahmacārīnaṁ appiyo ca hoti amanāpo ca agaru ca abhāvanīyo ca. Katamehi pañcahi? Avītarāgo hoti, avītadoso hoti, avītamoho hoti, makkhī ca, paḷāsī ca—imehi kho, bhikkhave, pañcahi dhammehi samannāgato thero bhikkhu sabrahmacārīnaṁ appiyo ca hoti amanāpo ca agaru ca abhāvanīyo ca.
“Bhikkhus, a senior bhikkhu with five qualities is unlikable and unlovable to their spiritual companions, not respected or admired. What five? They’re not free of greed, hate, and delusion; they are offensive and contemptuous. A senior bhikkhu with these five qualities is unlikable and unlovable to their spiritual companions, not respected or admired.
पञ्चहि, भिक्खवे, धम्मेहि समन्नागतो थेरो भिक्खु सब्रह्मचारीनं पियो च होति मनापो च गरु च भावनीयो च। कतमेहि पञ्चहि? वीतरागो होति, वीतदोसो होति, वीतमोहो होति, अमक्खी च, अपळासी च—इमेहि खो, भिक्खवे, पञ्चहि धम्मेहि समन्नागतो थेरो भिक्खु सब्रह्मचारीनं पियो च होति मनापो च गरु च भावनीयो चा”ति।
