    WNT14 Protein

Encoded by human WNT14 Gene (WNT Family), the 365-amino acid 40 kD (precursor) WNT14 Protein is seen in adult skeletal muscle, heart, lung, pancreas, spleen, ovary, and placenta, and in fetal brain and lung. WNT14 is most related to Drosophila Wnt4. Highly-conserved, 350-400 amino acid WNT glycoproteins constitute cysteine-rich, short-range ligands for frizzled family seven transmembrane receptors involved in embryonic cell fate determination and patterning, as well as cell growth or differentiation in some adult mammalian tissues. Wnt14 initiates synovial joint formation in chick limb and is expressed in joint-forming regions where it induces the first steps of joint formation.
