    WNT7A Protein

    Definition 1

Human WNT7A protein is an homologue of the Drosophila wingless segment polarity gene product. WNT7A is a cysteine-rich extracellular matrix intercellular signaling glycoprotein implicated in the regulation of cell fate and patterning during embryogenesis. Gene expression is restricted to placenta, kidney, testis, uterus, fetal lung, and fetal and adult brain. WNT7A guides development of the female reproductive tract and controls limb development at the dorsoventral axis. (from OMIM 601570 and NCI) (NCI Thesaurus)

    Definition 2

The gene is a member of the WNT gene family. The protein shows 99% amino acid identity to the mouse Wnt7A protein. It not only guides the development of the anterior-posterior axis in the female reproductive tract, but also plays a critical role in uterine smooth muscle pattering and maintenance of adult uterine function.
