Observing Impermanence
सावत्थिनिदानं।
Sāvatthinidānaṁ.
At Sāvatthī.
“सद्धापब्बजितस्स, भिक्खवे, कुलपुत्तस्स अयमनुधम्मो होति—यं रूपे अनिच्चानुपस्सी विहरेय्य। वेदनाय … सञ्ञाय … सङ्खारेसु … विञ्ञाणे अनिच्चानुपस्सी विहरेय्य …पे… ‘परिमुच्चति दुक्खस्माऽति वदामी”ति।
“Saddhāpabbajitassa, bhikkhave, kulaputtassa ayamanudhammo hoti—yaṁ rūpe aniccānupassī vihareyya. Vedanāya … saññāya … saṅkhāresu … viññāṇe aniccānupassī vihareyya …pe… ‘parimuccati dukkhasmā’ti vadāmī”ti.
“Bhikkhus, when a gentleman has gone forth out of faith, this is what’s in line with the teachings. They should live observing impermanence in form, feeling, perception, choices, and consciousness. … They’re freed from suffering, I say.”
