यस्मिं, भिक्खवे, समये अरियसावको अट्ठिं कत्वा मनसि कत्वा सब्बं चेतसो समन्नाहरित्वा ओहितसोतो धम्मं सुणाति, इमस्स पञ्च नीवरणा तस्मिं समये न होन्ति। सत्त बोज्झङ्गा तस्मिं समये भावनापारिपूरिं गच्छन्ति।
Yasmiṁ, bhikkhave, samaye ariyasāvako aṭṭhiṁ katvā manasi katvā sabbaṁ cetaso samannāharitvā ohitasoto dhammaṁ suṇāti, imassa pañca nīvaraṇā tasmiṁ samaye na honti. Satta bojjhaṅgā tasmiṁ samaye bhāvanāpāripūriṁ gacchanti.
“Bhikkhus, sometimes a noble disciple pays attention, applies the mind, concentrates wholeheartedly, and actively listens to the teaching. At such a time the five hindrances are absent, and the seven awakening factors are fully developed.
कतमे पञ्च नीवरणा तस्मिं समये न होन्ति? कामच्छन्दनीवरणं तस्मिं समये न होति, ब्यापादनीवरणं तस्मिं समये न होति, थिनमिद्धनीवरणं तस्मिं समये न होति, उद्धच्चकुक्कुच्चनीवरणं तस्मिं समये न होति, विचिकिच्छानीवरणं तस्मिं समये न होति। इमस्स पञ्च नीवरणा तस्मिं समये न होन्ति।
Katame pañca nīvaraṇā tasmiṁ samaye na honti? Kāmacchandanīvaraṇaṁ tasmiṁ samaye na hoti, byāpādanīvaraṇaṁ tasmiṁ samaye na hoti, thinamiddhanīvaraṇaṁ tasmiṁ samaye na hoti, uddhaccakukkuccanīvaraṇaṁ tasmiṁ samaye na hoti, vicikicchānīvaraṇaṁ tasmiṁ samaye na hoti. Imassa pañca nīvaraṇā tasmiṁ samaye na honti.
What are the five hindrances that are absent? Sensual desire, ill will, dullness and drowsiness, restlessness and remorse, and doubt. These are the five hindrances that are absent.
कतमे सत्त बोज्झङ्गा तस्मिं समये भावनापारिपूरिं गच्छन्ति? सतिसम्बोज्झङ्गो तस्मिं समये भावनापारिपूरिं गच्छति …पे… उपेक्खासम्बोज्झङ्गो तस्मिं समये भावनापारिपूरिं गच्छति। इमे सत्त बोज्झङ्गा तस्मिं समये भावनापारिपूरिं गच्छन्ति। यस्मिं, भिक्खवे, समये अरियसावको अट्ठिं कत्वा मनसि कत्वा सब्बं चेतसो समन्नाहरित्वा ओहितसोतो धम्मं सुणाति, इमस्स पञ्च नीवरणा तस्मिं समये न होन्ति। इमे सत्त बोज्झङ्गा तस्मिं समये भावनापारिपूरिं गच्छन्ती”ति।
Katame satta bojjhaṅgā tasmiṁ samaye bhāvanāpāripūriṁ gacchanti? Satisambojjhaṅgo tasmiṁ samaye bhāvanāpāripūriṁ gacchati …pe… upekkhāsambojjhaṅgo tasmiṁ samaye bhāvanāpāripūriṁ gacchati. Ime satta bojjhaṅgā tasmiṁ samaye bhāvanāpāripūriṁ gacchanti. Yasmiṁ, bhikkhave, samaye ariyasāvako aṭṭhiṁ katvā manasi katvā sabbaṁ cetaso samannāharitvā ohitasoto dhammaṁ suṇāti, imassa pañca nīvaraṇā tasmiṁ samaye na honti. Ime satta bojjhaṅgā tasmiṁ samaye bhāvanāpāripūriṁ gacchantī”ti.
And what are the seven awakening factors that are fully developed? The awakening factors of mindfulness, investigation of principles, energy, rapture, tranquility, immersion, and equanimity. These are the seven awakening factors that are fully developed. Sometimes a noble disciple pays attention, applies the mind, concentrates wholeheartedly, and actively listens to the teaching. At such a time the five hindrances are absent, and the seven awakening factors are fully developed.”
