The Exterior as Not-Self
“रूपा, भिक्खवे, अनत्ता। यदनत्ता तं ‘नेतं मम, नेसोहमस्मि, न मेसो अत्ताऽति एवमेतं यथाभूतं सम्मप्पञ्ञाय दट्ठब्बं। सद्दा …पे… गन्धा … रसा … फोट्ठब्बा … धम्मा अनत्ता। यदनत्ता तं ‘नेतं मम, नेसोहमस्मि, न मेसो अत्ताऽति एवमेतं यथाभूतं सम्मप्पञ्ञाय दट्ठब्बं।
“Rūpā, bhikkhave, anattā. Yadanattā taṁ ‘netaṁ mama, nesohamasmi, na meso attā’ti evametaṁ yathābhūtaṁ sammappaññāya daṭṭhabbaṁ. Saddā …pe… gandhā … rasā … phoṭṭhabbā … dhammā anattā. Yadanattā taṁ ‘netaṁ mama, nesohamasmi, na meso attā’ti evametaṁ yathābhūtaṁ sammappaññāya daṭṭhabbaṁ.
“Bhikkhus, sights are not-self. And what’s not-self should be truly seen with right understanding like this: ‘This is not mine, I am not this, this is not my self.’ …”
एवं पस्सं …पे… नापरं इत्थत्तायाति पजानाती”ति।
Evaṁ passaṁ …pe… nāparaṁ itthattāyāti pajānātī”ti.
