अथ खो चन्दिमसो देवपुत्तो अभिक्कन्ताय रत्तिया अभिक्कन्तवण्णो केवलकप्पं जेतवनं ओभासेत्वा येन भगवा तेनुपसङ्कमि; उपसङ्कमित्वा भगवन्तं अभिवादेत्वा एकमन्तं अट्ठासि। एकमन्तं ठितो खो चन्दिमसो देवपुत्तो भगवतो सन्तिके इमं गाथं अभासि:
Atha kho candimaso1 devaputto abhikkantāya rattiyā abhikkantavaṇṇo kevalakappaṁ jetavanaṁ obhāsetvā yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkami; upasaṅkamitvā bhagavantaṁ abhivādetvā ekamantaṁ aṭṭhāsi. Ekamantaṁ ṭhito kho candimaso devaputto bhagavato santike imaṁ gāthaṁ abhāsi:
Then, late at night, the glorious god Candimasa, lighting up the entire Jeta’s Grove, went up to the Buddha, bowed, stood to one side, and recited this verse in the Buddha’s presence:
“ते हि सोत्थिं गमिस्सन्ति, कच्छेवामकसे मगा; झानानि उपसम्पज्ज, एकोदि निपका सता”ति।
“Te hi sotthiṁ gamissanti, kacchevāmakase magā; Jhānāni upasampajja, ekodi nipakā satā”ti.
“Like deer in a mosquito-free marsh, they will reach a safe place having entered the jhānas, unified, alert, and mindful.”
“ते हि पारं गमिस्सन्ति, छेत्वा जालंव अम्बुजो; झानानि उपसम्पज्ज, अप्पमत्ता रणञ्जहा”ति।
“Te hi pāraṁ gamissanti, chetvā jālaṁva ambujo; Jhānāni upasampajja, appamattā raṇañjahā”ti.
“Like fish when the net is cut, they will reach the far shore having entered the jhānas, diligent, with vices discarded.”
