    Cetopariyasutta

    Comprehending the Mind

    “इमेसञ्च पनाहं, आवुसो, चतुन्नं सतिपट्ठानानं भावितत्ता बहुलीकतत्ता परसत्तानं परपुग्गलानं चेतसा चेतो परिच्च पजानामि—सरागं वा चित्तं ‘सरागं चित्तन्ऽति पजानामि …पे… अविमुत्तं वा चित्तं ‘अविमुत्तं चित्तन्ऽति पजानामी”ति।

    “Imesañca panāhaṁ, āvuso, catunnaṁ satipaṭṭhānānaṁ bhāvitattā bahulīkatattā parasattānaṁ parapuggalānaṁ cetasā ceto paricca pajānāmi—sarāgaṁ vā cittaṁ ‘sarāgaṁ cittan’ti pajānāmi …pe… avimuttaṁ vā cittaṁ ‘avimuttaṁ cittan’ti pajānāmī”ti.

    “… And it’s because of developing and cultivating these four kinds of mindfulness meditation that I understand the minds of other beings and individuals, having comprehended them with my mind. I understand mind with greed as ‘mind with greed’ … I understand unfreed mind as ‘unfreed mind’.”
