    Desire, Etc. for the Suffering Interior

    “यं, भिक्खवे, दुक्खं, तत्र वो छन्दो पहातब्बो, रागो पहातब्बो, छन्दरागो पहातब्बो। किञ्च, भिक्खवे, दुक्खं?

    “Yaṁ, bhikkhave, dukkhaṁ, tatra vo chando pahātabbo, rāgo pahātabbo, chandarāgo pahātabbo. Kiñca, bhikkhave, dukkhaṁ?

    “Bhikkhus, you should give up desire … greed … desire and greed for what is suffering. And what is suffering?

    चक्खु, भिक्खवे, दुक्खं; तत्र वो छन्दो पहातब्बो, रागो पहातब्बो, छन्दरागो पहातब्बो …पे… जिव्हा दुक्खा …पे… मनो दुक्खो; तत्र वो छन्दो पहातब्बो, रागो पहातब्बो, छन्दरागो पहातब्बो। यं, भिक्खवे, दुक्खं तत्र वो छन्दो पहातब्बो, रागो पहातब्बो, छन्दरागो पहातब्बो”ति।

    Cakkhu, bhikkhave, dukkhaṁ; tatra vo chando pahātabbo, rāgo pahātabbo, chandarāgo pahātabbo …pe… jivhā dukkhā …pe… mano dukkho; tatra vo chando pahātabbo, rāgo pahātabbo, chandarāgo pahātabbo. Yaṁ, bhikkhave, dukkhaṁ tatra vo chando pahātabbo, rāgo pahātabbo, chandarāgo pahātabbo”ti.

    The eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind are suffering …”
