    “යං, භික්ඛවේ, න තුම්හාකං, තං පජහථ. තං වෝ පහීනං හිතාය සුඛාය භවිස්සති. කිඤ්ච, භික්ඛවේ, න තුම්හාකං? රූපා, භික්ඛවේ, න තුම්හාකං; තේ පජහථ. තේ වෝ පහීනා හිතාය සුඛාය භවිස්සන්ති.

    “Bhikkhus, give up what’s not yours. Giving it up will be for your welfare and happiness. And what isn’t yours? Sights aren’t yours: give them up. Giving them up will be for your welfare and happiness.

    සද්දා … ගන්ධා … රසා … ඵෝට්ඨබ්බා … ධම්මා න තුම්හාකං; තේ පජහථ. තේ වෝ පහීනා හිතාය සුඛාය භවිස්සන්ති.

    Sounds, smells, tastes, touches, and thoughts aren’t yours: give them up. Giving them up will be for your welfare and happiness.

    සේය්‍යථාපි, භික්ඛවේ, යං ඉමස්මිං ජේතවනේ තිණකට්ඨ …පේ…

    Suppose a person was to carry off the grass, sticks, branches, and leaves in this Jeta’s Grove …

    ඒවමේව ඛෝ, භික්ඛවේ, රූපා න තුම්හාකං; තේ පජහථ. තේ වෝ පහීනා හිතාය සුඛාය භවිස්සන්තී”ති ….

    In the same way, sights, sounds, smells, tastes, touches, and thoughts aren’t yours: give them up. Giving them up will be for your welfare and happiness.”
