“सेय्यथापि, भिक्खवे, ये केचि देवानं तावतिंसानं रुक्खा, पारिछत्तको तेसं अग्गमक्खायति; एवमेव खो, भिक्खवे, ये केचि बोधिपक्खिया धम्मा, पञ्ञिन्द्रियं तेसं अग्गमक्खायति, यदिदं—बोधाय।
“Seyyathāpi, bhikkhave, ye keci devānaṁ tāvatiṁsānaṁ rukkhā, pārichattako tesaṁ aggamakkhāyati; evameva kho, bhikkhave, ye keci bodhipakkhiyā dhammā, paññindriyaṁ tesaṁ aggamakkhāyati, yadidaṁ—bodhāya.
“Bhikkhus, of all the trees belonging to the gods of the Thirty-Three, the Shady Orchid Tree is said to be the best. In the same way, the faculty of wisdom is said to be the best of the qualities that lead to awakening in terms of becoming awakened.
कतमे च, भिक्खवे, बोधिपक्खिया धम्मा? सद्धिन्द्रियं, भिक्खवे, बोधिपक्खियो धम्मो, तं बोधाय संवत्तति। वीरियिन्द्रियं …पे… सतिन्द्रियं … समाधिन्द्रियं … पञ्ञिन्द्रियं बोधिपक्खियो धम्मो, तं बोधाय संवत्तति।
Katame ca, bhikkhave, bodhipakkhiyā dhammā? Saddhindriyaṁ, bhikkhave, bodhipakkhiyo dhammo, taṁ bodhāya saṁvattati. Vīriyindriyaṁ …pe… satindriyaṁ … samādhindriyaṁ … paññindriyaṁ bodhipakkhiyo dhammo, taṁ bodhāya saṁvattati.
And what are the qualities that lead to awakening? The faculties of faith, energy, mindfulness, immersion, and wisdom are qualities that lead to awakening, in that they lead to becoming awakened.
