    एणिजङ्घसुत्त

    Eṇijaṅghasutta

    Antelope Calves

    “एणिजङ्घं किसं वीरं, अप्पाहारं अलोलुपं; सीहंवेकचरं नागं, कामेसु अनपेक्खिनं; उपसङ्कम्म पुच्छाम, कथं दुक्खा पमुच्चती”ति।

    “Eṇijaṅghaṁ kisaṁ vīraṁ, appāhāraṁ alolupaṁ; Sīhaṁvekacaraṁ nāgaṁ, kāmesu anapekkhinaṁ; Upasaṅkamma pucchāma, kathaṁ dukkhā pamuccatī”ti.

    “O hero so lean, with antelope calves, not greedy, eating little, an elephant, wandering alone like a lion, you’re not concerned for sensual pleasures. We’ve come to ask a question: How is one released from all suffering?”

    “पञ्च कामगुणा लोके, मनोछट्ठा पवेदिता; एत्थ छन्दं विराजेत्वा, एवं दुक्खा पमुच्चती”ति।

    “Pañca kāmaguṇā loke, manochaṭṭhā paveditā; Ettha chandaṁ virājetvā, evaṁ dukkhā pamuccatī”ti.

    “The world has five kinds of sensual stimulation, and the mind is said to be the sixth. When you’ve discarded desire for these, you’re released from all suffering.”

    सत्तिवग्गो ततियो।

    Sattivaggo tatiyo.

    तस्सुद्दानं

    Tassuddānaṁ

    सत्तिया फुसति चेव, जटा मनोनिवारणा; अरहन्तेन पज्जोतो, सरा महद्धनेन च; चतुचक्केन नवमं, एणिजङ्घेन ते दसाति।

    Sattiyā phusati ceva, jaṭā manonivāraṇā; Arahantena pajjoto, sarā mahaddhanena ca; Catucakkena navamaṁ, eṇijaṅghena te dasāti.
