एकं समयं सम्बहुला थेरा भिक्खू चेतेसु विहरन्ति सहञ्चनिके। तेन खो पन समयेन सम्बहुलानं थेरानं भिक्खूनं पच्छाभत्तं पिण्डपातपटिक्कन्तानं मण्डलमाळे सन्निसिन्नानं सन्निपतितानं अयमन्तराकथा उदपादि:
Ekaṁ samayaṁ sambahulā therā bhikkhū cetesu1 viharanti sahañcanike. Tena kho pana samayena sambahulānaṁ therānaṁ bhikkhūnaṁ pacchābhattaṁ piṇḍapātapaṭikkantānaṁ maṇḍalamāḷe sannisinnānaṁ sannipatitānaṁ ayamantarākathā udapādi:
At one time several bhikkhus were staying in the land of the Cetīs at Sahajāti. Now at that time, after the meal, on return from almsround, several senior bhikkhus sat together in the pavilion and this discussion came up among them:
“यो नु खो, आवुसो, दुक्खं पस्सति दुक्खसमुदयम्पि सो पस्सति, दुक्खनिरोधम्पि पस्सति, दुक्खनिरोधगामिनिं पटिपदम्पि पस्सती”ति।
“yo nu kho, āvuso, dukkhaṁ passati dukkhasamudayampi so passati, dukkhanirodhampi passati, dukkhanirodhagāminiṁ paṭipadampi passatī”ti.
“Friends, does someone who sees suffering also see the origin of suffering, the cessation of suffering, and the practice that leads to the cessation of suffering?”
एवं वुत्ते, आयस्मा गवम्पति थेरो भिक्खू एतदवोच:
Evaṁ vutte, āyasmā gavampati thero2 bhikkhū etadavoca:
When they said this, Venerable Gavampati said to those senior bhikkhus:
“सम्मुखा मेतं, आवुसो, भगवतो सुतं, सम्मुखा पटिग्गहितं: ‘यो, भिक्खवे, दुक्खं पस्सति दुक्खसमुदयम्पि सो पस्सति, दुक्खनिरोधम्पि पस्सति, दुक्खनिरोधगामिनिं पटिपदम्पि पस्सति। यो दुक्खसमुदयं पस्सति दुक्खम्पि सो पस्सति, दुक्खनिरोधम्पि पस्सति, दुक्खनिरोधगामिनिं पटिपदम्पि पस्सति। यो दुक्खनिरोधं पस्सति दुक्खम्पि सो पस्सति, दुक्खसमुदयम्पि पस्सति, दुक्खनिरोधगामिनिं पटिपदम्पि पस्सति। यो दुक्खनिरोधगामिनिं पटिपदं पस्सति दुक्खम्पि सो पस्सति, दुक्खसमुदयम्पि पस्सति, दुक्खनिरोधम्पि पस्सतीऽ”ति।
“sammukhā metaṁ, āvuso, bhagavato sutaṁ, sammukhā paṭiggahitaṁ: ‘yo, bhikkhave, dukkhaṁ passati dukkhasamudayampi so passati, dukkhanirodhampi passati, dukkhanirodhagāminiṁ paṭipadampi passati. Yo dukkhasamudayaṁ passati dukkhampi so passati, dukkhanirodhampi passati, dukkhanirodhagāminiṁ paṭipadampi passati. Yo dukkhanirodhaṁ passati dukkhampi so passati, dukkhasamudayampi passati, dukkhanirodhagāminiṁ paṭipadampi passati. Yo dukkhanirodhagāminiṁ paṭipadaṁ passati dukkhampi so passati, dukkhasamudayampi passati, dukkhanirodhampi passatī’”ti.
“Friends, I have heard and learned this in the presence of the Buddha: ‘Someone who sees suffering also sees the origin of suffering, the cessation of suffering, and the practice that leads to the cessation of suffering. Someone who sees the origin of suffering also sees suffering, the cessation of suffering, and the practice that leads to the cessation of suffering. Someone who sees the cessation of suffering also sees suffering, the origin of suffering, and the practice that leads to the cessation of suffering. Someone who sees the practice that leads to the cessation of suffering also sees suffering, the origin of suffering, and the cessation of suffering.’”

तस्सुद्दानं
Tassuddānaṁ
द्वे वज्जी सम्मासम्बुद्धो, अरहं आसवक्खयो; मित्तं तथा च लोको च, परिञ्ञेय्यं गवम्पतीति।
Dve vajjī sammāsambuddho, arahaṁ āsavakkhayo; Mittaṁ tathā ca loko ca, pariññeyyaṁ gavampatīti.
