    Desire

    “किमत्थकामो न ददे, किं मच्चो न परिच्चजे; किंसु मुञ्चेय्य कल्याणं, पापिकं न च मोचये”ति।

    “Kimatthakāmo na dade, kiṁ macco na pariccaje; Kiṁsu muñceyya kalyāṇaṁ, pāpikaṁ na ca mocaye”ti.

    “What should one who desires the good not give away? What should a mortal not reject? What should be let out when it’s good, but not when it’s bad?”

    “अत्तानं न ददे पोसो, अत्तानं न परिच्चजे; वाचं मुञ्चेय्य कल्याणं, पापिकञ्च न मोचये”ति।

    “Attānaṁ na dade poso, attānaṁ na pariccaje; Vācaṁ muñceyya kalyāṇaṁ, pāpikañca na mocaye”ti.

    “A man shouldn’t give away himself. He shouldn’t reject himself. Speech should be let out when it’s good, but not when it’s bad.”
