    කතිඡින්දසුත්ත

    Cut How Many?

    සාවත්ථිනිදානං.

    At Sāvatthī.

    ඒකමන්තං ඨිතා ඛෝ සා දේවතා භගවතෝ සන්තිකේ ඉමං ගාථං අභාසි:

    Standing to one side, that deity recited this verse in the Buddha’s presence:

    “කති ඡින්දේ කති ජහේ, කති චුත්තරි භාවයේ; කති සඞ්ගාතිගෝ භික්ඛු, ඕඝතිණ්ණෝති වුච්චතී”ති.

    “Cut how many? Drop how many? Develop how many more? When a bhikkhu slips how many chains are they said to have crossed the flood?”

    “පඤ්ච ඡින්දේ පඤ්ච ජහේ, පඤ්ච චුත්තරි භාවයේ; පඤ්ච සඞ්ගාතිගෝ භික්ඛු, ඕඝතිණ්ණෝති වුච්චතී”ති.

    “Five to cut, five to drop, and five more to develop. When a bhikkhu slips five chains they’re said to have crossed the flood.”
