    सावत्थिनिदानं।

    Sāvatthinidānaṁ.

    At Sāvatthī.

    “पञ्च, भिक्खवे, खन्धे देसेस्सामि, पञ्चुपादानक्खन्धे च। तं सुणाथ।

    “Pañca, bhikkhave, khandhe desessāmi, pañcupādānakkhandhe ca. Taṁ suṇātha.

    “Bhikkhus, I will teach you the five aggregates and the five grasping aggregates. Listen …

    कतमे च, भिक्खवे, पञ्चक्खन्धा?

    Katame ca, bhikkhave, pañcakkhandhā?

    And what are the five aggregates?

    यं किञ्चि, भिक्खवे, रूपं अतीतानागतपच्चुप्पन्नं अज्झत्तं वा बहिद्धा वा ओळारिकं वा सुखुमं वा हीनं वा पणीतं वा यं दूरे सन्तिके वा, अयं वुच्चति रूपक्खन्धो।

    Yaṁ kiñci, bhikkhave, rūpaṁ atītānāgatapaccuppannaṁ ajjhattaṁ vā bahiddhā vā oḷārikaṁ vā sukhumaṁ vā hīnaṁ vā paṇītaṁ vā yaṁ dūre santike vā, ayaṁ vuccati rūpakkhandho.

    Any kind of form at all—past, future, or present; internal or external; coarse or fine; inferior or superior; far or near: this is called the aggregate of form.

    Any kind of perception at all …

    ये केचि सङ्खारा अतीतानागतपच्चुप्पन्ना अज्झत्तं वा बहिद्धा वा ओळारिका वा सुखुमा वा …पे… अयं वुच्चति सङ्खारक्खन्धो।

    ye keci saṅkhārā atītānāgatapaccuppannā ajjhattaṁ vā bahiddhā vā oḷārikā vā sukhumā vā …pe… ayaṁ vuccati saṅkhārakkhandho.

    Any kind of choices at all …

    यं किञ्चि विञ्ञाणं अतीतानागतपच्चुप्पन्नं अज्झत्तं वा बहिद्धा वा ओळारिकं वा सुखुमं वा हीनं वा पणीतं वा यं दूरे सन्तिके वा, अयं वुच्चति विञ्ञाणक्खन्धो।

    Yaṁ kiñci viññāṇaṁ atītānāgatapaccuppannaṁ ajjhattaṁ vā bahiddhā vā oḷārikaṁ vā sukhumaṁ vā hīnaṁ vā paṇītaṁ vā yaṁ dūre santike vā, ayaṁ vuccati viññāṇakkhandho.

    Any kind of consciousness at all—past, future, or present; internal or external; coarse or fine; inferior or superior; far or near: this is called the aggregate of consciousness.

    इमे वुच्चन्ति, भिक्खवे, पञ्चक्खन्धा।

    Ime vuccanti, bhikkhave, pañcakkhandhā.

    These are called the five aggregates.

    कतमे च, भिक्खवे, पञ्चुपादानक्खन्धा?

    Katame ca, bhikkhave, pañcupādānakkhandhā?

    And what are the five grasping aggregates?

    यं किञ्चि, भिक्खवे, रूपं अतीतानागतपच्चुप्पन्नं …पे… यं दूरे सन्तिके वा सासवं उपादानियं, अयं वुच्चति रूपुपादानक्खन्धो।

    Yaṁ kiñci, bhikkhave, rūpaṁ atītānāgatapaccuppannaṁ …pe… yaṁ dūre santike vā sāsavaṁ upādāniyaṁ, ayaṁ vuccati rūpupādānakkhandho.

    Any kind of form at all—past, future, or present; internal or external; coarse or fine; inferior or superior; far or near, which is accompanied by defilements and is prone to being grasped: this is called the aggregate of form connected with grasping.

    या काचि वेदना …पे… या दूरे सन्तिके वा सासवा उपादानिया, अयं वुच्चति वेदनुपादानक्खन्धो।

    Yā kāci vedanā …pe… yā dūre santike vā sāsavā upādāniyā, ayaṁ vuccati vedanupādānakkhandho.

    Any kind of feeling at all …

    या काचि सञ्ञा …पे… या दूरे सन्तिके वा सासवा उपादानिया, अयं वुच्चति सञ्ञुपादानक्खन्धो।

    Yā kāci saññā …pe… yā dūre santike vā sāsavā upādāniyā, ayaṁ vuccati saññupādānakkhandho.

    Any kind of perception at all …

    ये केचि सङ्खारा …पे… सासवा उपादानिया, अयं वुच्चति सङ्खारुपादानक्खन्धो।

    Ye keci saṅkhārā …pe… sāsavā upādāniyā, ayaṁ vuccati saṅkhārupādānakkhandho.
