    Aristocrats

    “खत्तियो द्विपदं सेट्ठो, बलीबद्दो चतुप्पदं; कोमारी सेट्ठा भरियानं, यो च पुत्तान पुब्बजो”ति।

    “Khattiyo dvipadaṁ seṭṭho, balībaddo1 catuppadaṁ; Komārī seṭṭhā bhariyānaṁ, yo ca puttāna pubbajo”ti.

    “An aristocrat is the best of bipeds, an ox is the best of quadrupeds, a maiden is the best of wives, and a first-born the best of sons.”

    “सम्बुद्धो द्विपदं सेट्ठो, आजानीयो चतुप्पदं; सुस्सूसा सेट्ठा भरियानं, यो च पुत्तानमस्सवो”ति।

    “Sambuddho dvipadaṁ seṭṭho, ājānīyo catuppadaṁ; Sussūsā seṭṭhā bhariyānaṁ, yo ca puttānamassavo”ti.

    “A Buddha is the best of bipeds, a thoroughbred, the best of quadrupeds, a good listener is the best of wives, and the best of sons is loyal.”
