Kusalarāsisutta
A Heap of the Skillful
“‘कुसलरासीऽति, भिक्खवे, वदमानो चत्तारो सतिपट्ठाने सम्मा वदमानो वदेय्य। केवलो हायं, भिक्खवे, कुसलरासि, यदिदं—चत्तारो सतिपट्ठाना।
“‘Kusalarāsī’ti, bhikkhave, vadamāno cattāro satipaṭṭhāne sammā vadamāno vadeyya. Kevalo hāyaṁ, bhikkhave, kusalarāsi, yadidaṁ—cattāro satipaṭṭhānā.
“Rightly speaking, bhikkhus, you’d call these four kinds of mindfulness meditation a ‘heap of the skillful’. For these four kinds of mindfulness meditation are entirely a heap of the skillful.
कतमे चत्तारो? इध, भिक्खवे, भिक्खु काये कायानुपस्सी विहरति आतापी सम्पजानो सतिमा, विनेय्य लोके अभिज्झादोमनस्सं; वेदनासु …पे… चित्ते …पे… धम्मेसु धम्मानुपस्सी विहरति आतापी सम्पजानो सतिमा, विनेय्य लोके अभिज्झादोमनस्सं।
Katame cattāro? Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu kāye kāyānupassī viharati ātāpī sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaṁ; vedanāsu …pe… citte …pe… dhammesu dhammānupassī viharati ātāpī sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaṁ.
What four? It’s when a bhikkhu meditates by observing an aspect of the body—keen, aware, and mindful, rid of covetousness and displeasure for the world. They meditate observing an aspect of feelings … mind … principles—keen, aware, and mindful, rid of covetousness and displeasure for the world.
‘कुसलरासीऽति, भिक्खवे, वदमानो इमे चत्तारो सतिपट्ठाने सम्मा वदमानो वदेय्य। केवलो हायं, भिक्खवे, कुसलरासि, यदिदं—चत्तारो सतिपट्ठाना”ति।
