सावत्थिनिदानं।

“सेय्यथापि, भिक्खवे, नदी पब्बतेय्या ओहारिनी दूरङ्गमा सीघसोता। तस्सा उभोसु तीरेसु कासा चेपि जाता अस्सु, ते नं अज्झोलम्बेय्युं; कुसा चेपि जाता अस्सु, ते नं अज्झोलम्बेय्युं; पब्बजा चेपि जाता अस्सु, ते नं अज्झोलम्बेय्युं; बीरणा चेपि जाता अस्सु, ते नं अज्झोलम्बेय्युं; रुक्खा चेपि जाता अस्सु, ते नं अज्झोलम्बेय्युं। तस्सा पुरिसो सोतेन वुय्हमानो कासे चेपि गण्हेय्य, ते पलुज्जेय्युं। सो ततोनिदानं अनयब्यसनं आपज्जेय्य। कुसे चेपि गण्हेय्य, पब्बजे चेपि गण्हेय्य, बीरणे चेपि गण्हेय्य, रुक्खे चेपि गण्हेय्य, ते पलुज्जेय्युं। सो ततोनिदानं अनयब्यसनं आपज्जेय्य।
“Seyyathāpi, bhikkhave, nadī pabbateyyā ohārinī dūraṅgamā sīghasotā. Tassā ubhosu tīresu1 kāsā cepi jātā assu, te naṁ ajjholambeyyuṁ; kusā cepi jātā assu, te naṁ ajjholambeyyuṁ; pabbajā cepi jātā assu, te naṁ ajjholambeyyuṁ; bīraṇā cepi jātā assu, te naṁ ajjholambeyyuṁ; rukkhā cepi jātā assu, te naṁ ajjholambeyyuṁ. Tassā puriso sotena vuyhamāno kāse cepi gaṇheyya, te palujjeyyuṁ. So tatonidānaṁ anayabyasanaṁ āpajjeyya. Kuse cepi gaṇheyya, pabbaje cepi gaṇheyya, bīraṇe cepi gaṇheyya, rukkhe cepi gaṇheyya, te palujjeyyuṁ. So tatonidānaṁ anayabyasanaṁ āpajjeyya.
“Suppose, bhikkhus, there was a mountain river that flowed swiftly, going far, carrying all before it. If wild sugarcane, kusa grass, reeds, vetiver, or trees grew on either bank, they’d overhang the river. And if a person who was being swept along by the current grabbed the wild sugarcane, kusa grass, reeds, vetiver, or trees, it’d break off, and they’d come to ruin because of that.
एवमेव खो, भिक्खवे, अस्सुतवा पुथुज्जनो अरियानं अदस्सावी अरियधम्मस्स अकोविदो अरियधम्मे अविनीतो, सप्पुरिसानं अदस्सावी सप्पुरिसधम्मस्स अकोविदो सप्पुरिसधम्मे अविनीतो
Evameva kho, bhikkhave, assutavā puthujjano ariyānaṁ adassāvī ariyadhammassa akovido ariyadhamme avinīto, sappurisānaṁ adassāvī sappurisadhammassa akovido sappurisadhamme avinīto
In the same way, an unlearned ordinary person has not seen the noble ones, and is neither skilled nor trained in the teaching of the noble ones. They’ve not seen good persons, and are neither skilled nor trained in the teaching of the good persons.
रूपं अत्ततो समनुपस्सति, रूपवन्तं वा अत्तानं; अत्तनि वा रूपं, रूपस्मिं वा अत्तानं। तस्स तं रूपं पलुज्जति। सो ततोनिदानं अनयब्यसनं आपज्जति। वेदनं … सञ्ञं … सङ्खारे … विञ्ञाणं अत्ततो समनुपस्सति, विञ्ञाणवन्तं वा अत्तानं; अत्तनि वा विञ्ञाणं, विञ्ञाणस्मिं वा अत्तानं। तस्स तं विञ्ञाणं पलुज्जति। सो ततोनिदानं अनयब्यसनं आपज्जति।
rūpaṁ attato samanupassati, rūpavantaṁ vā attānaṁ; attani vā rūpaṁ, rūpasmiṁ vā attānaṁ. Tassa taṁ rūpaṁ palujjati. So tatonidānaṁ anayabyasanaṁ āpajjati. Vedanaṁ … saññaṁ … saṅkhāre … viññāṇaṁ attato samanupassati, viññāṇavantaṁ vā attānaṁ; attani vā viññāṇaṁ, viññāṇasmiṁ vā attānaṁ. Tassa taṁ viññāṇaṁ palujjati. So tatonidānaṁ anayabyasanaṁ āpajjati.
They regard form as self, self as having form, form in self, or self in form. But their form breaks off, and they come to ruin because of that. They regard feeling … perception … choices … consciousness as self, self as having consciousness, consciousness in self, or self in consciousness. But their consciousness breaks off, and they come to ruin because of that.
तं किं मञ्ञथ, भिक्खवे, रूपं निच्चं वा अनिच्चं वा”ति?
Taṁ kiṁ maññatha, bhikkhave, rūpaṁ niccaṁ vā aniccaṁ vā”ti?
What do you think, bhikkhus? Is form permanent or impermanent?”
“अनिच्चं, भन्ते”। …पे…
“Aniccaṁ, bhante”. …pe…
“Impermanent, sir.” …
“वेदना … सञ्ञा … सङ्खारा … विञ्ञाणं निच्चं वा अनिच्चं वा”ति?
“Vedanā … saññā … saṅkhārā … viññāṇaṁ niccaṁ vā aniccaṁ vā”ti?
“Is feeling … perception … choices … consciousness permanent or impermanent?”
“अनिच्चं, भन्ते”।
“Aniccaṁ, bhante”.
“Impermanent, sir.”
“तस्मातिह …पे… एवं पस्सं …पे… नापरं इत्थत्तायाति पजानाती”ति।
“Tasmātiha …pe… evaṁ passaṁ …pe… nāparaṁ itthattāyāti pajānātī”ti.
“So you should truly see … Seeing this … They understand: ‘… there is no return to any state of existence.’”
