    निब्बिदासुत्त

    Nibbidāsutta

    Disillusionment

    “चत्तारोमे, भिक्खवे, इद्धिपादा भाविता बहुलीकता एकन्तनिब्बिदाय विरागाय निरोधाय उपसमाय अभिञ्ञाय सम्बोधाय निब्बानाय संवत्तन्ति। कतमे चत्तारो? इध, भिक्खवे, भिक्खु छन्दसमाधिप्पधानसङ्खारसमन्नागतं इद्धिपादं भावेति, वीरियसमाधि …पे… चित्तसमाधि …पे… वीमंसासमाधिप्पधानसङ्खारसमन्नागतं इद्धिपादं भावेति। इमे खो, भिक्खवे, चत्तारो इद्धिपादा भाविता बहुलीकता एकन्तनिब्बिदाय विरागाय निरोधाय उपसमाय अभिञ्ञाय सम्बोधाय निब्बानाय संवत्तन्ती”ति।

    “Cattārome, bhikkhave, iddhipādā bhāvitā bahulīkatā ekantanibbidāya virāgāya nirodhāya upasamāya abhiññāya sambodhāya nibbānāya saṁvattanti. Katame cattāro? Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu chandasamādhippadhānasaṅkhārasamannāgataṁ iddhipādaṁ bhāveti, vīriyasamādhi …pe… cittasamādhi …pe… vīmaṁsāsamādhippadhānasaṅkhārasamannāgataṁ iddhipādaṁ bhāveti. Ime kho, bhikkhave, cattāro iddhipādā bhāvitā bahulīkatā ekantanibbidāya virāgāya nirodhāya upasamāya abhiññāya sambodhāya nibbānāya saṁvattantī”ti.

    “Bhikkhus, these four bases of psychic power, when developed and cultivated, lead solely to disillusionment, dispassion, cessation, peace, insight, awakening, and Nibbana. What four? It’s when a bhikkhu develops the basis of psychic power that has immersion due to enthusiasm … energy … mental development … inquiry, and active effort. These four bases of psychic power, when developed and cultivated, lead solely to disillusionment, dispassion, cessation, peace, insight, awakening, and Nibbana.”
