“चत्तारोमे, भिक्खवे, सतिपट्ठाना। कतमे चत्तारो? इध, भिक्खवे, भिक्खु काये कायानुपस्सी विहरति आतापी सम्पजानो सतिमा, विनेय्य लोके अभिज्झादोमनस्सं। तस्स काये कायानुपस्सिनो विहरतो कायो परिञ्ञातो होति। कायस्स परिञ्ञातत्ता अमतं सच्छिकतं होति।
“Cattārome, bhikkhave, satipaṭṭhānā. Katame cattāro? Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu kāye kāyānupassī viharati ātāpī sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaṁ. Tassa kāye kāyānupassino viharato kāyo pariññāto hoti. Kāyassa pariññātattā amataṁ sacchikataṁ hoti.
“Bhikkhus, there are these four kinds of mindfulness meditation. What four? It’s when a bhikkhu meditates by observing an aspect of the body—keen, aware, and mindful, rid of covetousness and displeasure for the world. As they do so they completely understand the body. When the body is completely understood they realize the deathless.
वेदनासु वेदनानुपस्सी विहरति आतापी सम्पजानो सतिमा, विनेय्य लोके अभिज्झादोमनस्सं। तस्स वेदनासु वेदनानुपस्सिनो विहरतो वेदना परिञ्ञाता होन्ति। वेदनानं परिञ्ञातत्ता अमतं सच्छिकतं होति।
Vedanāsu vedanānupassī viharati ātāpī sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaṁ. Tassa vedanāsu vedanānupassino viharato vedanā pariññātā honti. Vedanānaṁ pariññātattā amataṁ sacchikataṁ hoti.
They meditate observing an aspect of feelings—keen, aware, and mindful, rid of covetousness and displeasure for the world. As they do so they completely understand feelings. When feelings are completely understood they realize the deathless.
चित्ते चित्तानुपस्सी विहरति आतापी सम्पजानो सतिमा, विनेय्य लोके अभिज्झादोमनस्सं। तस्स चित्ते चित्तानुपस्सिनो विहरतो चित्तं परिञ्ञातं होति। चित्तस्स परिञ्ञातत्ता अमतं सच्छिकतं होति।
Citte cittānupassī viharati ātāpī sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaṁ. Tassa citte cittānupassino viharato cittaṁ pariññātaṁ hoti. Cittassa pariññātattā amataṁ sacchikataṁ hoti.
They meditate observing an aspect of the mind—keen, aware, and mindful, rid of covetousness and displeasure for the world. As they do so they completely understand the mind. When the mind is completely understood they realize the deathless.
धम्मेसु धम्मानुपस्सी विहरति आतापी सम्पजानो सतिमा, विनेय्य लोके अभिज्झादोमनस्सं। तस्स धम्मेसु धम्मानुपस्सिनो विहरतो धम्मा परिञ्ञाता होन्ति। धम्मानं परिञ्ञातत्ता अमतं सच्छिकतं होती”ति।
Dhammesu dhammānupassī viharati ātāpī sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaṁ. Tassa dhammesu dhammānupassino viharato dhammā pariññātā honti. Dhammānaṁ pariññātattā amataṁ sacchikataṁ hotī”ti.
They meditate observing an aspect of principles—keen, aware, and mindful, rid of covetousness and displeasure for the world. As they do so they completely understand principles. When principles are completely understood they realize the deathless.”
