सावत्थिनिदानं।
Sāvatthinidānaṁ.
At Sāvatthī.
“इच्छामहं, भिक्खवे, अड्ढमासं पटिसल्लीयितुं। नम्हि केनचि उपसङ्कमितब्बो, अञ्ञत्र एकेन पिण्डपातनीहारकेना”ति।
“Icchāmahaṁ, bhikkhave, aḍḍhamāsaṁ paṭisallīyituṁ. Namhi kenaci upasaṅkamitabbo, aññatra ekena piṇḍapātanīhārakenā”ti.
“Bhikkhus, I wish to go on retreat for a fortnight. No-one should approach me, except for the one who brings my almsfood.”
“एवं, भन्ते”ति खो ते भिक्खू भगवतो पटिस्सुत्वा नास्सुध कोचि भगवन्तं उपसङ्कमति, अञ्ञत्र एकेन पिण्डपातनीहारकेन।
“Evaṁ, bhante”ti kho te bhikkhū bhagavato paṭissutvā nāssudha koci bhagavantaṁ upasaṅkamati, aññatra ekena piṇḍapātanīhārakena.
“Yes, sir,” replied those bhikkhus. And no-one approached him, except for the one who brought the almsfood.
अथ खो भगवा तस्स अड्ढमासस्स अच्चयेन पटिसल्लाना वुट्ठितो भिक्खू आमन्तेसि:
Atha kho bhagavā tassa aḍḍhamāsassa accayena paṭisallānā vuṭṭhito bhikkhū āmantesi:
Then after a fortnight had passed, the Buddha came out of retreat and addressed the bhikkhus:
“येन स्वाहं, भिक्खवे, विहारेन पठमाभिसम्बुद्धो विहरामि, तस्स पदेसेन विहासिं। सो एवं पजानामि: ‘मिच्छादिट्ठिपच्चयापि वेदयितं; सम्मादिट्ठिपच्चयापि वेदयितं …पे… मिच्छासमाधिपच्चयापि वेदयितं; सम्मासमाधिपच्चयापि वेदयितं;
“yena svāhaṁ, bhikkhave, vihārena paṭhamābhisambuddho viharāmi, tassa padesena vihāsiṁ. So evaṁ pajānāmi: ‘micchādiṭṭhipaccayāpi vedayitaṁ; sammādiṭṭhipaccayāpi vedayitaṁ …pe… micchāsamādhipaccayāpi vedayitaṁ; sammāsamādhipaccayāpi vedayitaṁ;
“Bhikkhus, I’ve been practicing part of the meditation I practiced when I was first awakened. I understand that there’s feeling conditioned by wrong view and feeling conditioned by right view. … There’s feeling conditioned by wrong immersion, and feeling conditioned by right immersion.
छन्दपच्चयापि वेदयितं; वितक्कपच्चयापि वेदयितं; सञ्ञापच्चयापि वेदयितं; छन्दो च अवूपसन्तो होति, वितक्को च अवूपसन्तो होति, सञ्ञा च अवूपसन्ता होति, तप्पच्चयापि वेदयितं; छन्दो च वूपसन्तो होति, वितक्को च वूपसन्तो होति, सञ्ञा च वूपसन्ता होति, तप्पच्चयापि वेदयितं;
chandapaccayāpi vedayitaṁ; vitakkapaccayāpi vedayitaṁ; saññāpaccayāpi vedayitaṁ; chando ca avūpasanto hoti, vitakko ca avūpasanto hoti, saññā ca avūpasantā hoti, tappaccayāpi vedayitaṁ; chando ca vūpasanto hoti, vitakko ca vūpasanto hoti, saññā ca vūpasantā hoti, tappaccayāpi vedayitaṁ;
There’s feeling conditioned by desire, by thought, and by perception. As long as desire, thought, and perception are not stilled, there is feeling conditioned by that. When desire, thought, and perception are stilled, there is feeling conditioned by that.
अप्पत्तस्स पत्तिया अत्थि आयामं, तस्मिम्पि ठाने अनुप्पत्ते तप्पच्चयापि वेदयितन्ऽ”ति।
appattassa pattiyā atthi āyāmaṁ, tasmimpi ṭhāne anuppatte tappaccayāpi vedayitan’”ti.
There is effort to attain the unattained. When that state has been attained, there is also feeling conditioned by that.”
