“सक्कायञ्च वो, भिक्खवे, देसेस्सामि सक्कायसमुदयञ्च सक्कायनिरोधञ्च सक्कायनिरोधगामिनिञ्च पटिपदं। तं सुणाथ।
“Sakkāyañca vo, bhikkhave, desessāmi sakkāyasamudayañca sakkāyanirodhañca sakkāyanirodhagāminiñca paṭipadaṁ. Taṁ suṇātha.

कतमो च, भिक्खवे, सक्कायो? पञ्चुपादानक्खन्धातिस्स वचनीयं। कतमे पञ्च? सेय्यथिदं—रूपुपादानक्खन्धो, वेदनुपादानक्खन्धो, सञ्ञुपादानक्खन्धो, सङ्खारुपादानक्खन्धो, विञ्ञाणुपादानक्खन्धो। अयं वुच्चति, भिक्खवे, सक्कायो।
Katamo ca, bhikkhave, sakkāyo? Pañcupādānakkhandhātissa vacanīyaṁ. Katame pañca? Seyyathidaṁ—rūpupādānakkhandho, vedanupādānakkhandho, saññupādānakkhandho, saṅkhārupādānakkhandho, viññāṇupādānakkhandho. Ayaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, sakkāyo.
And what is identity? It should be said: the five grasping aggregates. What five? That is, the grasping aggregates of form, feeling, perception, choices, and consciousness. This is called identity.
कतमो च, भिक्खवे, सक्कायसमुदयो? यायं तण्हा पोनोभविका …पे… अयं वुच्चति, भिक्खवे, सक्कायसमुदयो।
Katamo ca, bhikkhave, sakkāyasamudayo? Yāyaṁ taṇhā ponobhavikā …pe… ayaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, sakkāyasamudayo.
And what is the origin of identity? It’s the craving that leads to future lives, mixed up with relishing and greed, taking pleasure wherever it lands. That is, craving for sensual pleasures, craving to continue existence, and craving to end existence. This is called the origin of identity.
कतमो च, भिक्खवे, सक्कायनिरोधो? यो तस्सायेव तण्हाय …पे… अयं वुच्चति, भिक्खवे, सक्कायनिरोधो।
Katamo ca, bhikkhave, sakkāyanirodho? Yo tassāyeva taṇhāya …pe… ayaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, sakkāyanirodho.
And what is the cessation of identity? It’s the fading away and cessation of that very same craving with nothing left over; giving it away, letting it go, releasing it, and not clinging to it. This is called the cessation of identity.
कतमा च, भिक्खवे, सक्कायनिरोधगामिनी पटिपदा? अयमेव अरियो अट्ठङ्गिको मग्गो। सेय्यथिदं—सम्मादिट्ठि …पे… सम्मासमाधि। अयं वुच्चति, भिक्खवे, सक्कायनिरोधगामिनी पटिपदा”ति।
Katamā ca, bhikkhave, sakkāyanirodhagāminī paṭipadā? Ayameva ariyo aṭṭhaṅgiko maggo. Seyyathidaṁ—sammādiṭṭhi …pe… sammāsamādhi. Ayaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, sakkāyanirodhagāminī paṭipadā”ti.
And what is the practice that leads to the cessation of identity? It is simply this noble eightfold path, that is: right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right immersion. This is called the practice that leads to the cessation of identity.”
