Taṁyeva nidānaṁ. Ekamantaṁ nisinno kho āyasmā sāriputto āyasmantaṁ anuruddhaṁ etadavoca:

    The same setting.

“‘asekho, asekho’ti, āvuso anuruddha, vuccati. Kittāvatā nu kho, āvuso, asekho hotī”ti?

“Friend, they speak of this person called ‘an adept’. How is an adept defined?”

“Catunnaṁ kho, āvuso, satipaṭṭhānānaṁ samattaṁ bhāvitattā asekho hoti.

“Friends, an adept is someone who has completely developed the four kinds of mindfulness meditation.

Katamesaṁ catunnaṁ? Idhāvuso, bhikkhu kāye kāyānupassī viharati ātāpī sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaṁ; vedanāsu …pe… citte …pe… dhammesu dhammānupassī viharati ātāpī sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaṁ. Imesaṁ kho, āvuso, catunnaṁ satipaṭṭhānānaṁ samattaṁ bhāvitattā asekho hotī”ti.

What four? It’s when a bhikkhu meditates by observing an aspect of the body—keen, aware, and mindful, rid of covetousness and displeasure for the world. They meditate observing an aspect of feelings … mind … principles—keen, aware, and mindful, rid of covetousness and displeasure for the world. An adept is someone who has completely developed the four kinds of mindfulness meditation.”

    Sattamaṁ.
