    Samudayadhammasutta

    Liable To Originate

    सावत्थिनिदानं।

    Sāvatthinidānaṁ.

    At Sāvatthī.

    एकमन्तं निसिन्नो खो आयस्मा राधो भगवन्तं एतदवोच:

    Ekamantaṁ nisinno kho āyasmā rādho bhagavantaṁ etadavoca:

    Seated to one side, Venerable Rādha said to the Buddha:

    “‘समुदयधम्मो, समुदयधम्मोऽति, भन्ते, वुच्चति। कतमो नु खो, भन्ते, समुदयधम्मो”ति?

    “‘samudayadhammo, samudayadhammo’ti, bhante, vuccati. Katamo nu kho, bhante, samudayadhammo”ti?

    “Sir, they speak of ‘liable to originate’. What is liable to originate?”

    “रूपं खो, राध, समुदयधम्मो, वेदना समुदयधम्मो, सञ्ञा समुदयधम्मो, सङ्खारा समुदयधम्मो, विञ्ञाणं समुदयधम्मो।

    “Rūpaṁ kho, rādha, samudayadhammo, vedanā samudayadhammo, saññā samudayadhammo, saṅkhārā samudayadhammo, viññāṇaṁ samudayadhammo.

    “Rādha, form, feeling, perception, choices, and consciousness are liable to originate.

    एवं पस्सं …पे… नापरं इत्थत्तायाति पजानाती”ति।

    Evaṁ passaṁ …pe… nāparaṁ itthattāyāti pajānātī”ti.

    Seeing this … They understand: ‘… there is no return to any state of existence.’”

    एकादसमं।

    Ekādasamaṁ.
