    Streams

    “कुतो सरा निवत्तन्ति, कत्थ वट्टं न वत्तति; कत्थ नामञ्च रूपञ्च, असेसं उपरुज्झती”ति।

    “Kuto sarā nivattanti, kattha vaṭṭaṁ na vattati; Kattha nāmañca rūpañca, asesaṁ uparujjhatī”ti.

    “From where do streams turn back? Where does the cycle spin no more? Where do name and form cease with nothing left over?”

    “यत्थ आपो च पथवी, तेजो वायो न गाधति; अतो सरा निवत्तन्ति, एत्थ वट्टं न वत्तति; एत्थ नामञ्च रूपञ्च, असेसं उपरुज्झती”ति।

    “Yattha āpo ca pathavī, tejo vāyo na gādhati; Ato sarā nivattanti, ettha vaṭṭaṁ na vattati; Ettha nāmañca rūpañca, asesaṁ uparujjhatī”ti.

    “Where water and earth, fire and air find no footing—from there the streams turn back; there the cycle spins no more; and there it is that name and form cease with nothing left over.”
