    සත්තිසුත්ත

    A Sword

    සාවත්ථිනිදානං.

    At Sāvatthī.

    ඒකමන්තං ඨිතා ඛෝ සා දේවතා භගවතෝ සන්තිකේ ඉමං ගාථං අභාසි:

    Standing to one side, that deity recited this verse in the Buddha’s presence:

    “සත්තියා විය ඕමට්ඨෝ, ඩය්හමානෝව මත්ථකේ; කාමරාගප්පහානාය, සතෝ භික්ඛු පරිබ්බජේ”ති.

    “Like they’re struck by a sword, like their head was on fire, a bhikkhu, mindful, should go forth, to give up sensual desire.”

    “සත්තියා විය ඕමට්ඨෝ, ඩය්හමානෝව මත්ථකේ; සක්කායදිට්ඨිප්පහානාය, සතෝ භික්ඛු පරිබ්බජේ”ති.

    “Like they’re struck by a sword, like their head was on fire, a bhikkhu, mindful, should go forth, to give up identity view.”
