    Impermanence (3rd)

    सावत्थिनिदानं।

    Sāvatthinidānaṁ.

    At Sāvatthī.

    “यं, भिक्खवे, अनिच्चं; तत्र वो छन्दरागो पहातब्बो। किञ्च, भिक्खवे, अनिच्चं?

    “Yaṁ, bhikkhave, aniccaṁ; tatra vo chandarāgo pahātabbo. Kiñca, bhikkhave, aniccaṁ?

    “Bhikkhus, you should give up desire and greed for what is impermanent. And what is impermanent?

    रूपं, भिक्खवे, अनिच्चं, तत्र वो छन्दरागो पहातब्बो।

    Rūpaṁ, bhikkhave, aniccaṁ, tatra vo chandarāgo pahātabbo.

    Form is impermanent; you should give up desire and greed for it.

    Consciousness is impermanent; you should give up desire and greed for it.

    यं, भिक्खवे, अनिच्चं; तत्र वो छन्दरागो पहातब्बो”ति।

    Yaṁ, bhikkhave, aniccaṁ; tatra vo chandarāgo pahātabbo”ti.

    You should give up desire and greed for what is impermanent.”
