Sāvatthinidānaṁ.
At Sāvatthī.
“Tisso imā, bhikkhave, vedanā. Katamā tisso? Sukhā vedanā, dukkhā vedanā, adukkhamasukhā vedanā—imā kho, bhikkhave, tisso vedanā.
“Bhikkhus, there are these three feelings. What three? Pleasant, painful, and neutral feeling. These are the three feelings.
Imāsaṁ kho, bhikkhave, tissannaṁ vedanānaṁ pariññāya ariyo aṭṭhaṅgiko maggo bhāvetabbo. Katamo ariyo aṭṭhaṅgiko maggo? Seyyathidaṁ—sammādiṭṭhi …pe… sammāsamādhi.
The noble eightfold path should be developed to completely understand these three feelings. What is the noble eightfold path? It is right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right immersion.
Imāsaṁ kho, bhikkhave, tissannaṁ vedanānaṁ pariññāya ariyo aṭṭhaṅgiko maggo bhāvetabbo”ti.
This noble eightfold path should be developed to completely understand these three feelings.”
