“येसं केसञ्चि, भिक्खवे, चत्तारो सतिपट्ठाना विरद्धा, विरद्धो तेसं अरियो मग्गो सम्मा दुक्खक्खयगामी। येसं केसञ्चि, भिक्खवे, चत्तारो सतिपट्ठाना आरद्धा, आरद्धो तेसं अरियो मग्गो सम्मा दुक्खक्खयगामी।
“Yesaṁ kesañci, bhikkhave, cattāro satipaṭṭhānā viraddhā, viraddho tesaṁ ariyo maggo1 sammā dukkhakkhayagāmī. Yesaṁ kesañci, bhikkhave, cattāro satipaṭṭhānā āraddhā, āraddho tesaṁ ariyo maggo sammā dukkhakkhayagāmī.
“Bhikkhus, whoever has missed out on the four kinds of mindfulness meditation has missed out on the noble path to the complete ending of suffering. Whoever has undertaken the four kinds of mindfulness meditation has undertaken the noble path to the complete ending of suffering.
कतमे चत्तारो? इध, भिक्खवे, भिक्खु काये कायानुपस्सी विहरति आतापी सम्पजानो सतिमा, विनेय्य लोके अभिज्झादोमनस्सं; वेदनासु …पे… चित्ते …पे… धम्मेसु धम्मानुपस्सी विहरति आतापी सम्पजानो सतिमा, विनेय्य लोके अभिज्झादोमनस्सं।
Katame cattāro? Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu kāye kāyānupassī viharati ātāpī sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaṁ; vedanāsu …pe… citte …pe… dhammesu dhammānupassī viharati ātāpī sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaṁ.
What four? It’s when a bhikkhu meditates by observing an aspect of the body—keen, aware, and mindful, rid of covetousness and displeasure for the world. They meditate observing an aspect of feelings … mind … principles—keen, aware, and mindful, rid of covetousness and displeasure for the world.
येसं केसञ्चि, भिक्खवे, इमे चत्तारो सतिपट्ठाना विरद्धा, विरद्धो तेसं अरियो मग्गो सम्मा दुक्खक्खयगामी। येसं केसञ्चि, भिक्खवे, इमे चत्तारो सतिपट्ठाना आरद्धा, आरद्धो तेसं अरियो मग्गो सम्मा दुक्खक्खयगामी”ति।
Yesaṁ kesañci, bhikkhave, ime cattāro satipaṭṭhānā viraddhā, viraddho tesaṁ ariyo maggo sammā dukkhakkhayagāmī. Yesaṁ kesañci, bhikkhave, ime cattāro satipaṭṭhānā āraddhā, āraddho tesaṁ ariyo maggo sammā dukkhakkhayagāmī”ti.
