    Brevibacillus laterosporus

    Definition 1

    A species of facultatively anaerobic, Gram-positive, Gram-negative or Gram-variable, rod shaped bacteria assigned to the phylum Firmicutes. This species is motile, catalase positive, indole negative, reduces nitrate, hydrolyzes casein and gelatin, but not starch or urea and forms spores with a distinct canoe shaped body that is attached to the side of the spore in a lateral position within the sporangium. B laterosporus is found in soil, water, insects and their larvae, and may be pathogenic in humans. (NCI Thesaurus)
