Faces Pain Scale Revised Questionnaire
Definition 1
A standardized rating scale developed and copyrighted by the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) in 2001 but is available for non-commercial clinical, educational and research use in the journal Pain (Hicks CL, von Baeyer CL, Spafford P, van Korlaar I, Goodenough B. The Faces Pain Scale - Revised: Toward a common metric in pediatric pain measurement. Pain 2001;93:173-183). This instrument is used to evaluate the severity of pain in an individual who is unable to use a numerical scale alone such as a child. The scale consists of six facial expression representing varying levels of pain which correspond to a number between 0 and 10 where the 0 face represents 'no pain' and the 10 face represents 'very much pain'.
