    GSTM1 wt Allele

Human GSTM1 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 1p13.3 and is approximately 6 kb in length. This allele, which encodes glutathione S-transferase Mu 1 protein, is involved in the conjugation of reduced glutathione with both endogenous and exogenous hydrophobic electrophilic compounds. Null mutations of the GSTM1 gene are associated with several types of human cancer such as lung, bladder, and head and neck cancers. (NCI Thesaurus)
