Human GSTT1 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 22q11.23 and is approximately 8 kb in length. This allele, which encodes glutathione S-transferase theta-1 protein, is involved in the conjugation of reduced glutathione with both endogenous and exogenous hydrophobic electrophilic compounds. The GSTT1 null genotype is associated with an increased risk for the development of cancer. (NCI Thesaurus)
