    Macrophage Inflammatory Protein 2, Alpha

Chemokines are small, mostly basic, related molecules that regulate trafficking of leukocytes through interactions with GPCRs. In response to endotoxin, macrophages secrete MIP2, a protein with affinity for heparin and a potent chemotactic agent for polymorphonuclear leukocytes that causes a localized inflammatory reaction.
