    Stage IIIB

Locally advanced cancer that has spread to nearby organs but not to distant anatomic sites. The definition of stage IIIB depends on the particular type of cancer that it refers to; for example, for breast cancer, stage IIIB is defined as follows: (T4, N0, M0); (T4, N1, M0); (T4, N2, M0). T4: Tumor of any size with direct extension to the chest wall and/or to the skin (ulceration or skin nodules). N0: No regional lymph node metastasis. N1: Metastasis to movable ipsilateral level I, II axillary lymph node(s). N2: Metastases in ipsilateral level I, II axillary lymph nodes that are clinically fixed or matted; or in clinically detected ipsilateral internal mammary nodes in the absence of clinically evident axillary lymph node metastases. M0: No clinical or radiographic evidence of distant metastasis. M0 includes M0(i+); for cervical cancer, stage IIIB is defined as follows: (T3b, Any N, M0); (T1-3, N1, M0). T3: Tumor extends to pelvic wall and/or involves lower third of vagina, and/or causes hydronephrosis or non-functioning kidney. T3b: Tumor extends to pelvic wall and/or causes hydronephrosis or non-functioning kidney. N1: Regional lymph node metastasis. M0: No distant metastasis. (partially adapted from AJCC 7th ed.)
