The Ten Powers
สาวตฺถิยํ วิหรติฯ
At Sāvatthī.
“ทสพลสมนฺนาคโต, ภิกฺขเว, ตถาคโต จตูหิ จ เวสารชฺเชหิ สมนฺนาคโต อาสภํ ฐานํ ปฏิชานาติ, ปริสาสุ สีหนาทํ นทติ, พฺรหฺมจกฺกํ ปวตฺเตติ—
“Bhikkhus, a Realized One has ten powers and four kinds of self-assurance. With these he claims the bull’s place, roars his lion’s roar in the assemblies, and turns the holy wheel.
อิติ รูปํ อิติ รูปสฺส สมุทโย อิติ รูปสฺส อตฺถงฺคโม, อิติ เวทนา อิติ เวทนาย สมุทโย อิติ เวทนาย อตฺถงฺคโม, อิติ สญฺญา อิติ สญฺญาย สมุทโย อิติ สญฺญาย อตฺถงฺคโม, อิติ สงฺขารา อิติ สงฺขารานํ สมุทโย อิติ สงฺขารานํ อตฺถงฺคโม, อิติ วิญฺญาณํ อิติ วิญฺญาณสฺส สมุทโย อิติ วิญฺญาณสฺส อตฺถงฺคโมฯ
Such is form, such is the origin of form, such is the ending of form. Such is feeling, such is the origin of feeling, such is the ending of feeling. Such is perception, such is the origin of perception, such is the ending of perception. Such are functioning patterns, such is the origin of functioning patterns, such is the ending of functioning patterns. Such is consciousness, such is the origin of consciousness, such is the ending of consciousness.
อิติ อิมสฺมึ สติ อิทํ โหติ, อิมสฺสุปฺปาทา อิทํ อุปฺปชฺชติฯ อิมสฺมึ อสติ อิทํ น โหติ, อิมสฺส นิโรธา อิทํ นิรุชฺฌติฯ
When this exists, that is; due to the arising of this, that arises. When this doesn’t exist, that is not; due to the cessation of this, that ceases. That is:
ยทิทํ อวิชฺชาปจฺจยา สงฺขารา;
Ignorance is a condition for functioning patterns.
สงฺขารปจฺจยา วิญฺญาณํ …เป… เอวเมตสฺส เกวลสฺส ทุกฺขกฺขนฺธสฺส สมุทโย โหติฯ อวิชฺชาย เตฺวว อเสสวิราคนิโรธา สงฺขารนิโรโธ; สงฺขารนิโรธา วิญฺญาณนิโรโธ …เป… เอวเมตสฺส เกวลสฺส ทุกฺขกฺขนฺธสฺส นิโรโธ โหตี”ติฯ
Functioning patterns are a condition for consciousness. … That is how this entire mass of suffering originates. When ignorance fades away and ceases with nothing left over, functioning patterns cease. When functioning patterns cease, consciousness ceases. … That is how this entire mass of suffering ceases.”
