สาวตฺถินิทานํฯ
At Sāvatthī.
“คิหิโน วาหํ, ภิกฺขเว, ปพฺพชิตสฺส วา มิจฺฉาปฏิปทํ น วณฺเณมิฯ คิหิ วา, ภิกฺขเว, ปพฺพชิโต วา มิจฺฉาปฏิปนฺโน มิจฺฉาปฏิปตฺตาธิกรณเหตุ นาราธโก โหติ ญายํ ธมฺมํ กุสลํฯ
“Bhikkhus, I don’t praise wrong practice for laypeople or renunciates. Because of wrong practice, neither laypeople nor renunciates succeed in the system of the skillful teaching.
กตมา จ, ภิกฺขเว, มิจฺฉาปฏิปทา? เสยฺยถิทํ—มิจฺฉาทิฏฺฐิ …เป… มิจฺฉาสมาธิฯ อยํ วุจฺจติ, ภิกฺขเว, มิจฺฉาปฏิปทาฯ คิหิโน วาหํ, ภิกฺขเว, ปพฺพชิตสฺส วา มิจฺฉาปฏิปทํ น วณฺเณมิฯ คิหิ วา, ภิกฺขเว, ปพฺพชิโต วา มิจฺฉาปฏิปนฺโน มิจฺฉาปฏิปตฺตาธิกรณเหตุ นาราธโก โหติ ญายํ ธมฺมํ กุสลํฯ
And what’s the wrong practice? It is wrong view, wrong thought, wrong speech, wrong action, wrong livelihood, wrong effort, wrong mindfulness, and wrong immersion. This is called the wrong practice. I don’t praise wrong practice for lay people or renunciates. Because of wrong practice, neither laypeople nor renunciates succeed in the system of the skillful teaching.
คิหิโน วาหํ, ภิกฺขเว, ปพฺพชิตสฺส วา สมฺมาปฏิปทํ วณฺเณมิฯ คิหิ วา, ภิกฺขเว, ปพฺพชิโต วา สมฺมาปฏิปนฺโน สมฺมาปฏิปตฺตาธิกรณเหตุ อาราธโก โหติ ญายํ ธมฺมํ กุสลํฯ กตมา จ, ภิกฺขเว, สมฺมาปฏิปทา? เสยฺยถิทํ—สมฺมาทิฏฺฐิ …เป… สมฺมาสมาธิฯ อยํ วุจฺจติ, ภิกฺขเว, สมฺมาปฏิปทาฯ คิหิโน วาหํ, ภิกฺขเว, ปพฺพชิตสฺส วา สมฺมาปฏิปทํ วณฺเณมิฯ
I praise right practice for laypeople and renunciates. Because of right practice, both laypeople and renunciates succeed in the system of the skillful teaching. And what’s the right practice? It is right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right immersion. This is called the right practice. I praise right practice for laypeople and renunciates.
คิหิ วา, ภิกฺขเว, ปพฺพชิโต วา สมฺมาปฏิปนฺโน สมฺมาปฏิปตฺตาธิกรณเหตุ อาราธโก โหติ ญายํ ธมฺมํ กุสลนฺ”ติฯ
Because of right practice, both laypeople and renunciates succeed in the system of the skillful teaching.”
